New emissions legislation to be introduced
In news of interest to motor traders, new legislation regarding CO2 emissions has been approved by the European Parliament.
Emissions on new passenger vehicles will be capped at 125 g CO2/km from 2015, with recommendations to move to 95 g CO2/km by 2020 and 70 g CO2/km by 2025.
MEP Chris Davies said that the "industry has stalled in reducing CO2 emissions" but that "the technology is there to make a significant difference in a short period of time".
According to statistics raised by the parliament's emission discussion, 19 per cent of the CO2 produced within the EU is from passenger cars, for example a black cab, and light-commercial vehicles, such as an LGV.
Porsche threatened in September that if the EU introduced the CO2 caps, then it would consider taking legal action.
