Trio attacked after getting into bogus taxi

Trio attacked after getting into bogus taxi

A group of friends were savagely attacked with a hammer by two men, one of whom pretended to be a taxi driver, in Oldham at the weekend.

The victims, one man and two women, got into what they thought was a private hire taxi on Yorkshire Street after a night out.

Instead of taking the passengers home, the driver took them to an area on Abbeyhills Road where he was met by an accomplice.

The men, both described as Asian, proceeded to beat the trio with a hammer before robbing them and making a getaway.

Detective Constable Craig Morgan from the Oldham Criminal Investigation Department has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

He said: "This was a bizarre set of circumstances that resulted in a group of friends enjoying a night out being savagely assaulted and robbed."

Meanwhile, five real taxi drivers in Thames Valley have been sentenced for perverting the course of justice after giving false driver nominations to police after being stopped for committing motoring offences.
