Van hire firm expands into Oldham

A van hire and rental firm has expanded in Greater Manchester, into Oldham, in order to expand its firm.

NVR Fleet, a commercial vehicle rental company, has taken up a new 2.7 acre site in Hollinwood, on Manchester's outskirts, according to Crain's Manchester Business.

The firm said the move is part of expansion plans for the next 12 months and the base will be its first in the north of England.

Ron Gray, general manager for the firm for the north, said: "Our clients asked us to move here. This site is different to our others because we will be running the sales and rental operations together."

David Edwards, the managing director, said Manchester had been chosen due to its economic growth, with the firm using it as a "test bed" for other northern bases.

He said in the current economic climate builders would rather rent than buy, boosting the business.

Manchester has recently been criticised for its congestion charging scheme, as adding to the existing taxes faced by van drivers.
